MySpA spondyloarthritis patient app
Spondyloarthritis (SpA) affects between 0.5% and 2% of the population. Patients typically only see specialists a few times a year, meaning effective self-management is key. With Barts Health NHS trust, we built MySpA, an app that provides patients with tools to better monitor and manage their disease.
Why?
To empower SpA patients to manage their flares in between specialist appointments, improving their quality of life.
Our solution
We mapped out the SpA patient journey from the start of symptoms to diagnosis, treatment and beyond, identifying the problems and opportunities on the journey. This was a truly collaborative project, with patients involved in the design, and healthcare professionals involved throughout development.
The MySpA app enables disease self-assessments to be completed and shared. It also provides symptom tracking and advice for patients to effectively self-manage their disease, including exercises provided as easy-to-follow, engaging instructional videos that can be added to a personal exercise plan.
The app also gives clinicians access to self-assessment data, providing a better understanding of disease progress between hospital appointments and resulting in more effective clinics for the team at Barts Health.
